The alloy wheels are automobile wheels made up of aluminum or magnesium. Alloy wheels are different from the steel wheels because of their lighter weight and great performance. They are better heat conductors than the steel wheels. There are mainly two reasons why people buy the alloy wheels i.e. they are lighter in weight and they provide a great look to a car.
A greater care is required to a car’s wheels because they receive more wear than any other parts of a car. The wheels are closest to the road, grit and grime. After few months of use, the alloy wheels will lose its sparkle and brightness. The minor scratches and tar spots can give them a bad look. Before your fit alloy wheels to your car, you need to give them several coats of a good polish or wax.
There have been many products in the market that are specifically formulated to protect your painted alloy, stainless steel wheels. Some of the most commonly used products include the following.
INNO-X
This is one of the best alloy wheel protectors and it is available in 500ml and 200ml.
Alloy Wax
The alloy wax is applied as a normal wax or polish. The alloy wax provides exception shining to your alloy wheels for up to 3 months.
Supawheels
The Supawheels is a new product offered by Supagard. It provides extra shining and care to your alloy wheels.
MetalMate
The MetalMate product has been tested and claimed one of the best care products for alloy wheels. MetalMate makes the wheels look like bright, clean and shiny. With MetalMate it is so easy to keep off the dust.
You can also use the protective coatings like Turtle Wax Wheel Protector it helps to protect the brake dust settling on the car wheels. You need to wash your car regularly. When washing your car, use fresh water and a wet sponge.
The following tips can provide the best protection to your car.
Use wet sponge and fresh water to clean your car.
Use good car polish
Use surface protector
Let your wheels cool before cleaning them.
Never use abrasive cleansers.
Before you mount your wheels give them several coats of good quality car polish.
Do not put your car wheels on the hyper heating as it will change the color of the paint on your wheels.
Frequent washing with mildly soapy warm water is the best way to keep your alloy wheels clean. If you take the time to care for them properly they will last a long time and you will not have to get them repaired or replaced.

How to restore (or paint) factory alloy rims?
I have some faded and stained aluminum rims on my Cherokee that are cramping it’s style. I find it a bit of a waste of money to go with new rims (the factory ones are not that bad and they have the “JEEP” on one of the arms).
So how do I restore them to a nice shiny pretty state?
Alternatively, I may consider painting them (or parts of them). My XJ has the gray/red color scheme; any suggestions?
Thanks!
It’s a 1990 Laredo BTW
I’ve got a red S10 and some grungy Z28 wheels (you can see one of them in my avatar). I was thinking of cleaning them up and squirting some black or charcoal paint on them, or maybe a medium silver. Spray cans don’t cost too much, so if you don’t like one color, it’s cheap to try another. DON’T use a drill with a wire brush to clean them up, though.
