for playing blues music, which tube performs well with my marshall JTM 30 and 1969 super reverb SF amps?
As far as I know, there are only about 1-2 companies that make tubes anymore. They are all on the same quality level, believe it or not. I prefer the warm tone of a tube amp, and the vintage sound of the old pick-ups. I own a recording studio, and I’m a singer/songwriter/producer/publisher and a couple of other hats that I wear, so quality sound to me is a must. I can’t say that I like the popping one sometimes get from the tube amps, but I can deal with that. I’ve owned my share of Marshall amps, and at one time owned a big ole Band Master Fender amp, in which I loved the sound, but dragging it around to gigs is hard on the ole back. I try to keep it simple anymore when I do play a gig. I mainly just do charity type gigs now, as my business keeps me far too busy to have the time to play out. Sometimes I play as much as 10 hours in the studio in one day, and playing a gig is just not possible. Most studio’s have all gone digital anymore, and it no longer has a warm tape sound, but with some of the effects now available, it’s easy to duplicate the tube amp sound of many old amps without having them on hand. I’m old school when it comes to sound though!! Have fun!!
